"Charles Henri Leonard, physician, author; born Akron, Ohio, March 28, 1850; son of Charles H. and Ann S. (Gary) Leonard. On the paternal side he is a descendant of Soloman Leonard, who was a friend of Captain Standish of the New Plymouth colony. On his mother's side he is a descendant of the Pierce's of Massachusetts. His grandmother was a cousin of President Franklin Pierce. He was educated at Hiram College, Ohio; Genesee College, Lima, New York; Union College, Schenectady, New York; graduating, A.B., 1872, A.M., 1882; studied medicine at Cleveland, Ohio, under Professor G.C.E. Weber, attended lectures at Medical Department, University of Wooster, graduating, M.D., 1874; post-graduate courses at College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Women's Hospital, New York; married, at Avon Springs, NY, June 5, 1872, Cornelia S. Williams. Has practiced in Detroit since 1874; professor gynecology Detroit College of Medicine since 1879; member Detroit Public Library Board for six years, and its president, 1901. Member American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society, Wayne County Medical Society (president 1888-1890), Detroit Gynecological Society (vice president, 1892) State committeeman Pan-American Medical Congress. After the death of his wife Cornelia, Dr. Leonard remarried to Helen Elizabeth Blakeslee Mann. Dr. Leonard and Cornelia had four children; Mable, Edna, Charles and Cornelius Leonard.

The following appeared Saturday, August 1, 1925, on page 5 of the Detroit Times, Detroit, Michigan: "Dr. Leonard Died - Dr. C. Henri Leonard -- Doctor Leonard, who died yesterday, resided in Detroit since 1872 and gained prominence as a physician, astronomer, educator and business man. The following also appeared Saturday, August 1, 1925, on page 5 of the Detroit Times, Detroit, Michigan: "PLAN RITES FOR DR. LEONARD - Funeral arrangements were to be made today for Dr. C. Henri Leonard, prominent physician, astronomer, educator and business man who was found dead in his bed in his home at 5475 Woodward avenue, the Gates Manor apartments.
"Dr. Leonard was born in Akron, O., on March 28, 1850, and has lived in Detroit since 1874. He has served as professor of gynecology at the Detroit College of Medicine and as vice president of the Detroit Coin Wrapper company.
"HAD EARTHQUAKE THEORY - He also has been a member of the library commission for many years. Dr. Leonard came into national prominence in 1914 when he announced an earthquake theory which has been studied by scientists in all parts of the world and which has been accepted by many of them.
"Dr. Leonard attended Hiram College at Hiram, O., Genesee College at Lima, N.Y., and Union College, Schenectady, N.Y. He received degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Union College. He studied medicine at the University of Wooster and the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
"In 1872 Dr. Leonard was married to Miss Cornelia S. Williams at Avon Springs, N.Y. He became a member of the staff of the Detroit College of Medicine in 1879 and became a professor emeritus upon his retirement in 1910. His medical affiliations included the American Medical Association, The Michigan State Medical Society, the Wayne County Medical Society and the Detroit Gynecological Society, and in addition, he was state committeeman of the Pan American Medical Congress
"In addition to his astronomical writings, he published many books for the layman on various phases of medicine.
"Dr. Leonard also made more than 100 predictions of earthquakes and it is said that 85 per cent of the predictions were fulfilled.
