Mrs. Sarah Barnett, 85, of rural route 1, Knoxville passed away Tuesday morning August 25 at Collins Hospital where she had been a patient since July 8th. She had been in failing health for several months.
She was born on April 2, 1885 in Lucas, Iowa the daughter of Peter and Anna Hagg Moline. SHe was united in marriage to John Barnett in November of 1904 in Oskaloosa and the couple made their home in various mining camps in Marion and Mahaska counties. She made her home sout east of Knoxville for the past fifty years.
The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1964.
She was a life-time member of the Central Iowa Mineral Society and she and her husband started the Barnett Fossil Farm which attracted visitors from all parts of the country.
Preceeding her in death were her parents, two brothers and two sisters, her husband John in 1966, one son Tom and two grandchildren.
Surviving are eight sons; John and Kendall of Hiwatha, Utah; Byron route 1 Knoxville; Howard of Marion, Iowa; Myrl of Des Moines; Robert of Grinnell; Douglas of San Diego, Calif.; Dr. Jerry Barnett of West Des Moines; one daughter Mrs. Scott Bette Wilson of route 1, Knoxville; 35 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren; one brother Jack Moline of Boise, Idaho; five sisters Mrs. Ida Albough Montezuma, Ia., Mrs. Esther Raggles San Diego, Cal., Mrs. Lottie Norris and Mrs. Irene Besco of Eddyville, Mrs. Eva Chilton of rural route Oskaloosa.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home 2:00 p.m. Friday with Rev. Eugene McDaniel pastor of the Free Methodist Church officiating. Interment to follow in Graceland cemetery.
