Winnie M. Brown, 82, of Mt. Carmel, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

She was born April 27, 1927 in Hanson, Ky., the daughter of Elbert and Ida (Shadrick) Sisk.

She married Jesse Albert Fortner and, after his passing, she married Edgar L. Brown Sr. on Jan. 8, 1978 in Mt. Carmel, and he survives.

Winnie was a nurse's aide at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel. She was a member of the Heartland Worship Center in Mt. Carmel.

She is survived by her husband, Edgar Brown; three sons, Jessie (Connie) Fortner of Tyler, Texas, Gary Fortner of Mt. Carmel, and David (Gladys) Fortner of Bellmont; two daughters, Mary (John) Adams of Whitehouse, Tenn., and Ann Compton of Mt. Carmel; four stepchildren, Edgar L. Brown Jr. of Princeton, Ind., Bonnie Sue Adams of Vincennes, Ind., Kittie May Brown of Princeton and Pamela Jean Brown of Princeton; a sister, Nell Rose Embry of Cannelton, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jesse Albert Fortner; sister, Mabel Walls; an infant brother, Charles Sisk; brother, Robert Sisk; and great-grandson, Elisha Fortner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 29, at Heartland Worship Center in Mt. Carmel, with burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery following the service.
