Informant Leda C. Steele of the same 1859 N. Allen Ave [niece, d/o Velma's sister Artemecia "Arte" Crawford]. Velma lived in this precinct 7 years and in California 10 years.
She was born 3 August 1859 near Lake Zuriuch, ILL [a suburb of Chicago in Lake County] to William and Permelia (Ferris) Sutherland, natives of New York.
Widow of Benjamin Freeman Mouser; married 18 Nov 1885 in Neosho County, KS, by Minister J.M. Baughn at the house of E.H. Crawford. Benjamin age 41 was a resident of Osage Mission [Neosho County] KS, and Velma 26 lived at Lamar, Barton County, MO.
[Ben was born 16 Aug 1844 Washington Courthouse, Fayette, OH, and died 21 Feb 1916, Kansas City, Wyandotte Co. KS per his memorial and is buried there in Mount Hope Cemetery; no children per his obit.
Velma was embalmed by Dick Reynolds of G. Hal Reynolds & John W. Eberle Mortuary Inc., with "burial, cremation or removal" to "Reynolds & Eberle Vault" Pasadena on 8 Feb 1940 (filed 8 Feb by J.L. Pomery MD).
