John Helmick, aged 90 years, father of William "Chipper" Helmick, and one of Greene County's most rabid baseball and hockey fans, died at his home in Carmichaels yesterday evening, September 26, at 7 o'clock following an illness of several weeks. The deceased was a native of the Carmichaels district and was born May 11, 1848, a son of George and Mary Ann McKnight Helmick, deceased, and was a former riverman. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ann Helmick, and the following children: Mrs. Thomas Nevins, of Detroit, Mich; Mrs. Lydia Porter and Mrs. Mary Scott, both of Washington; Mrs. Howard Grooms and William "Chipper" Helmick, both of Carmichaels. A brother, Thomas Helmick, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Moffitt, of Millsboro, also survive along with 12 grandchildren. Mr. Helmick was a member of the Carmichaels Methodist Episcopal Church.
