From Greenwich Journal dated 30 January 1997:
Dorothy E. Knowlton., 86, of Argyle, died Monday, January 27, 1997, after a long illness. Services will be conducted on Friday, January 31, at 2 p.m. at the M.B, Kilmer Funeral Home in Argyle, with the Rev. Stephen McLean, pastor of the Argyle United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be a t Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle in the spring.

She was born September 15, 1910, in Yonkers, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Rowland) Archard. She was a charter member of the Argyle Emergency Squad and a member of the Argyle United Presbyterian Church. With her husband, Gordon, they raised many foster children in their home. She enjoyed gardening, reading, music and dancing. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon R. Knowlton who died in 1980; a daughter, Beverly Towne Pettey; two sisters, Laurel Mackay and Pearl Ellsworth; and two brothers, Cyril Archard and Wallace Archard. Survivors include her daughter, Sheila J. Knowlton of Argyle; two sons, Rowland C. Knowlton of Niceville, Fla., and David Knowlton of Fort Edward; one brother, Rowland Archard of Argyle; eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great great- grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Argyle Emergency Squad or to the Argyle United Presbyterian Church, or to the J.A. Barkley Hose Co., all in Argyle 12809.
