The funeral of John Abbe, who died at his home on Elm street Wednesday evening, was held at the house yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The service, which was private, was conducted by Rev E. W. Pond, pastor of the Congregational church. Mr. Abbe was an old-time resident of the Locks, and was born in Warehouse Point, February 26, 1822. His early life was spent as a pilot in guiding boats through the channel in the river between the Locks and the Enfield dam, and later became interested in a company that operated steamboats between Saybrook and Holyoke. He is survivedd by his widow and three daughters, Mrs William Mather of the Locks, Mrs Herman Butler and Mrs George H. Sutton of this city. The burial was in Grove cemetery.
