On November 15, 1947, he married Mildred T. Krajewski in Buffalo, New York. She preceded him in death on November 28, 1985.
Kenneth served his country in the U.S. Army, as a munitions worker stationed in Guam. He received his Victory American Theater Ribbon and his Asiatic – Pacific Theater Medal. Kenneth was a partner in the Shirley Brothers Auto Service, and later was employed as an auto mechanic at Lintner Chevrolet in Three Oaks and Galien. He loved to tinker and could fix just about anything.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Shirley, Jr., of Stevensville; Susan (Jack) Jones, of Maryland Heights, Missouri; and Brenda (Robert) Karsten, of St. Joseph, Michigan; grandchildren, Julienne, Jennifer and Jonathan, all of Maryland Heights, Missouri; and his sister, Jean LaVanway of Portage, Michigan.
