Alpha E. Hankins, 90 of Enfield, died Thursday September 11, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born March 6, 1924 near Enfield, the daughter of Phillip C. and Clara (Gwaltney) Newman. She married Earl Hankins on November 22, 1942 and he preceded her in death on October 19, 1987.

Alpha had worked at Ainsbrooke for 30 years and later worked in Dietary at Carmi Hospital for 10 years. She loved to cook for all of her kids and grandkids; then after that they played cards. She was a member of Enfield General Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Lonnie Hankins of Carmi, Iva Dinwiddie, and Alpha’s son-in-law, Henry Dinwiddie of Enfield, Linda Sandusky of Carmi and Kathy Fleck of Enfield; 7 grandchildren, Lewis and Brian Hankins, Lisa Quartana, Gordon Fleck, Phillip Sandusky, Jim and Kathy Sue Dinwiddie; great-grandchildren, Will, Isabel and Maggie Quartana, Branden and Trinity Hankins, Nicholas and Christoper Hankins, Abbey Fleck and Angelica Dinwiddie; one sister, Agnes Metcalf of LaPorte, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Frank Newman and two sisters, Viola Gunter and Reba Williams.
