Mildred Esther Reith - Mildred Esther Reith died Tuesday, September 2, 1997, at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri. Funeral services were Conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford on Friday, September 5,1997 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with Rev. Jamie Mogler officiating. Burial was held in the Fairview Cemetery.
Mildred Esther Reith, was born November 23, 1906, in Bedford, the daughter of Isaac and Minnie John Coon. She attended rural schools graduating from the Bedford High School. She was united in marriage to Roy Reith in Bedford on January 7, 1928. To this loving union one child, Roger, was born.
Esther and Roy were married for 67 years. Together they were active in the Democratic Party. In the 1950's they moved from Nebraska to Bedford were she was a teacher. In 1958 they moved to Pella and again in 1967 moved to Loveland, Colorado where they made their home for over 20 years.
Upon their retirement they lived in various places until settling down in Bedford to enjoy their golden years. Esther's husband Roy passed away in 1995 and Esther then moved to the Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center where she resided until her death. She loved to sing with the other residents during their activity periods. Esther was baptized into the Berea Church of Christ and was a faithful and devoted person throughout her life. She called the First Baptist Church of Bedford her church home.
Most of her friends knew her as Esther and of her love for music and children. Esther was an elementary school teacher for many years. Teaching in Bedford, Pella, North English and other rural schools in Iowa as well as in Nebraska. Many a child's life was influenced by Esther's great teaching ability. She especially found great pride in observing her former students enjoying success in their later years. Esther retired from teaching in 1967.
Esther is survived by one son, Roger and wife Janet Reith of Flower Mound, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Doris Coon (the late Howard Coon) of Bedford and Marjorie and Wendell Rasco of Barnard, Missouri; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and many, many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Isaac and Minnie; her loving husband, Roy, in 1995; three brothers, Howard, Homer and Virgil Coon, and one sister, Beulah Coon.
