William Alexander, 68, retired laborer, died yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness.
Alexander was employed most recently by Larkspur Lumber Co. He was born in Illinois and had resided in California for 24 years and in Marin County for 17 years. His wife died in 1948, and he had made his home recently with a son, Bruce L. Alexander, at 5 1/2 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, San Anselmo.
He was a member of the Boilermaker's Iron Ship Builders, Welders, and Helpers Union Local 6 of San Francisco. He was a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are 3 sons; Bruce Alexander; Richard W. Alexander of San Francisco; and John Alexander of Smyrna, NY; and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Newton of Eldorado, IL.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Harry M. Williams Mortuary, San Rafael, with burial in Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.
