Rebecca "Clemmy" Clementine (Whitehead) Gilmer was born on September 26, 1893 in Cades Cove, Tennessee, the daughter of Isaac Taylor "I T" Whitehead (1853-1932) and Mary Jane (Gregory) Whitehead (1860-1940). {Cades Cove - listed as Kay's Cove on Rebecca's Death Certificate - in the 1930s was made part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.}

She was married to Newton Franklin "Frank" Gilmer Jr (1867-1955).

A resident of 205 Queen Street, Nashville, she was 50 years old, suffering from diabetes mellitus and married when she died of of a cerebral hemorrhage on October 20, 1943 at Nashville's Protestant Hospital where she had been a patient for twenty days. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
