Verna Jean Norris, age 69, of Baker City, passed away Friday, March 22nd at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Norris will be held on Wednesday, March 27th at 2:00 p.m. in the Monroe Mortuary Chapel. Mr. Blaine Kenney of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church will officiate and interment will follow in the North Powder Cemetery.
Verna Norris was born June 14, 1921 to James and Nina Hand in Wolf Creek, Union County, Oregon. She was raised in the North Powder area. She married Benjamin Norris who has preceded her in death. Verna cared for her sisters children and home for many years. She also worked for the Baker recycling plant. She was a member of the Haines Club and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Verna is survived by her brothers, John Hand of Baker City, and Morris Hand of Riddle, Oregon; a sister, Hazel Gillette of Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Also many cousins including Mrs. Olga Ward of Haines. She was preceded in death by a brother Douglas Hand.
Visitations for Verna Norris will be at the Monroe Mortuary on Tuesday until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday until service time. For those who wish, donations in Verna Norris’ memory may be made to the Baker City Seventh-Day Adventist Church or a charity of one’s choice, this may be done through the Monroe Mortuary, 1950 Place St. in Baker City.
