Nancy's parents moved from Brown County, Texas to New Mexico and she remained in Texas, living with her Uncle Franklin Johnson "Frank" Lewis. Frank gave the permission for her to be married. After their marriage Elijah and Nancy moved to Otero County where her parents had homesteaded

Elijah and Nancy had 5 daughters
1. Nora Lavada Coffelt Lewis - born 12 May 1885 died 31 July 1967
2. Emma Arizona Coffelt Lewis - born 15 Oct 1886 died 24 Jan 1986
3. Maudie Lee Coffelt - born 1888 died March 1894
4. Ollie Belle Coffelt - born 1890 and died March 1894
5. Mary Naoma Coffelt - born 1891 and died March 1894

Their daughter, Emma Coffelt Lewis, said that her Mother, Nancy Jane and the last 3 little girls, died within a week of each other, the little girls died of diphtheria, and Nancy Jane contracted typhoid fever. After their deaths, the family said she was too weak from nursing her little daughters to fight the disease.

Nancy and her 3 daughters are buried in Weed Cemetery.
