MARGARET J. (FITZGERALD) BORRESEN D'AMICO

( May 11, 2014 )

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother on Sunday, May 11, 2014, two and a half months before her 100th birthday.

Mom was born on August 3, 1914 in Jeddo, NY, one of nine children born to James H. and Nora [O'Brian] Fitzgerald.

Shortly after her birth the family relocated to Niagara Falls which Mom always claimed as her home. She was educated at Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from Niagara Falls High School.

Mom married Thor Borresen in 1934 while he was part of the restoration team at Old Fort Niagara. Following their marriage, Thor joined the US Park Service as a fortifications expert, he worked on the restoration of Williamsburg, VA, St. Augustine, FL, and Ft. Laramie, WY. Following Dads death at Ft. Laramie in December of 1946, the family returned to Niagara Falls.

Mom worked as a medical secretary to Dr. Loran Welch until 1959, when she married an old schoolmate, Albert D' Amico. They remained in Niagara Falls until Albert retired as a chemistry teacher and hockey coach from Niagara Catholic High School. They moved to Orlando, FL in 1983, and then traveled to Italy, Mexico, and the Caribbean. After Albert's death in 1987, Mom moved to Summerfield, FL where she made many good friends, and continued to travel with her family to many foreign ports.

Mom is survived by her six children: Joan Borresen Routh, Dana Borresen, Kathryn (Paul) Tucker, Thor (Carole) Borresen, Bjame (Kathleen) Borresen, and Nicholas D'Amico, a sister, Julia Nicklas of Lewiston, NY, eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

The family will be present on Monday June 2, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 1124 Ontario Avenue, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday June 3, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph Parish, St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to Vitas Hospice, 2381 Mason Avenue, St. 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.

Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
