Sigmund L. Hammer, 79, of Oakmont died March 13, 2007.

Mr. Hammer was a retired teacher and lover of books and science as well as a member of Pittsburgh Savoyards and the Madrigal Singers.

Surviving are his children, Sigrid Wolf of Moreno Valley, Calif., Leif of Tarentum, Kirsten of Baden, Nils of Squirrel Hill and Anders Hammer of Monroeville; brothers, Douglas and Paul Hammer; sister, Kirsten Gardner; former wives, Carol Hammer and Judy Hammer; and a grandchild, Kirsten Aguirre.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rolf Hammer; siblings, Mary Alice, John, Laura, and Ludwig; and friend, Virginia Ladish.

A memorial service will be this Saturday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 5801 Hampton St., Highland Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakmont Carnegie Library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont, PA 15139. Arrangements were handled by English-Bertucci Funeral Home Inc.
