Pearl Dunker Maple Hillyard, 98, of Hull, IL, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Barry Community Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014, at the Akers Chapel Cemetery in rural Hull, IL. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pearl was born on May 16, 1916, in Easton, IL, to Charles F. and Cora Belle Petty Dunker. She was the oldest daughter and the second oldest child. She was one of thirteen children.

She was married to Carl I. Maple on December 10, 1936, in Havana, IL. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1966. Pearl later married Joseph Hillyard on August 8, 1981, in Hull, IL. He also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters: Nancy Jo Woodward (Ken) of Lake Ozark, MO, and Linda Sue Hall (Don) of Tecumseh, OK; 2 brothers: John Dunker (Eileen) and Bill Dunker (Betty); three sisters: Ruby Cole, June Lingwall (Bob) and Pat Likes; one sister in law, Helen Dunker; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, and seven brothers and sisters: Charles Dunker (Pauline), Virginia Schulz (Herbert), Dick Dunker (Dolores), Opal Kroencke (Lawrence), Wilbur Dunker (Charlotte), Clyde Dunker, Garnette Peters (Bill), and two brothers in law: Oral Cole and Marvin Likes.

Pearl was a homemaker and also the former owner and operator of her own restaurant in Hull, IL, “The Country Kitchen.” When being interviewed by her granddaughter, Pearl shared a humorous story about her time at the restaurant. One day she had wrapped the checks and money from the restaurant in a dishtowel and washed them in the washing machine and had to peel them off the sides and dry them on the clothesline. She was a Christian by faith and attended the Hull Community Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Dunker, Jerry Schulz, Bruce Cole, Larry Kroencke, Bob Dunker, Joe Peters, Rick Dunker, Chuck Dunker, and Don Hall Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Barry Community Care Center.
