Mellie A. Savage, 91, of Watsonville, CA, died December 19, 1989 at a convalescent hospital in that city. He formerly lived at Quail, TX and was the widow of Raymond Savage.

Her death occurred during the time of the San Francisco earthquake.

Mrs. Savage was the former Mellie Aylita Long. She was born in Mills County August 7, 1898. She came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Long to Quail January 9, 1919. They came in covered wagons through deep snow.

Mr. and Mrs. Savage were married about 1924. They moved to Watsonville in 1942. Mr. Savage farmed at Quail. He also worked as a mechanic in Wellington and later in California. Mr. Savage died in 1967.

She was a member of First Baptist Church at Freedom.

Survivors are three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Mary Savage of Watsonville; Wayne and Sandra Savage of San Jose, CA; Raymond Lynn (Sonny) and Clara Savage of Big Spring.

Four brothers and three sisters also survive: Edward long of Laton, CA, Byrl Long and Lawson Long, both of Athens, TX; Gwennie Lou Pendergrass of Wellington; Annie Funderburg of Merkel, and Doris Fisher of Arlington.
