Ken was the youngest of 2 sons of Harold Arby "Ted" Coen (1906-1964) and Opal Lourene Cline (1912-1987). Born in Oklahoma his family moved to Orange County, California about 1939. As a teenager, he played baseball and basketball and worked a summer or two at the Los Angeles County fair. He served 2 years in the Army stationed at Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona. He married in the early 1960's in New Mexico then moved back to Orange County where he had 2 children. In the mid 1960's Ken moved his family to Springfield, Lane County, Oregon to be closer to his older brother, Ernie, who lived in Eugene. He had 2 more children while living in Springfield and the family moved to Junction City, Lane County, Oregon in the mid 1970's.
Ken married Gayle Marie Herbert Upp in 1991 in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. They did not have any children, but their English Springer Spaniel, KC, was very important to them.
Ken worked for the City of Eugene Public Maintenance Department for 29 years, many of those years as a supervisor, and lived in Lane County for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, wood carving, leather working, crossword puzzles, and studying many topics.
Memorial service was held 09 Mar 2006.
