Otto L. Bloomquist, 84, prominent retired furniture manufacturer and dealer, who resided at the Hotel Jamestown, died this morning at 2:10 o’clock in the W.C/A. Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was born Aug. 17, 1863, in Sweden, but had been a resident of Jamestown for 67 years, the family home for many years being at 532 East Second Street. His long life and keen business acumen and foresight exemplified his rugged Scandinavian ancestry.
Mr. Bloomquist was one of the early furniture manufacturers in this community, originally forming the Regal Furniture Company, now the Herrick Manufacturing Company, under the name of Carlson, Bloomquist and Snow. He was president of the old Gage Furniture Company which was located first on East Third Street where the George B. Pitts Company now is and later on the East Second Street site of the Sears Roebuck Company. He was a director also of the Bank of Jamestown and the Hotel Jamestown.
Surviving are three daughters, (names redacted for privacy) His wife, Mrs. Jennie Dailey Bloomquist, died June 29, 1934. A daughter, Winnifred, and a two-year-old son also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held from the Henderson and Lincoln Chapel at 2 p.m., Monday, Rev. Dr. John Connell of First Presbyterian Church to officiate. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery.
