Maria "Mary" washed the clothes for the migrant cowboys and workers and follow them into California from her town of Durango, Mexico. She spoke Castilian Spanish. "Mary" was well known in the neighborhood as being very kind, she also had "old school" remedies for any sickness or injury and would bring food and comfort to those who were sick.
