Lewis Jay Van Fossen was born 22 February 1860 in Appleton, Ohio, the son of Jacob Van Fossen & Susan Evans Van Fossen. He was married to Luella Jane Bradley (1861-1928) on 16 May 1888 in Blue Earth Co., MN. They had four daughters and a son. He worked as an attorney. He was widowed in 1928. He died on 11 July 1939 in Minnetonka, MN at the age of 79. He was interred at Lakewood Cemetery.
