Funeral services were held in the Onslow Presbyterian church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, for Fred Bangs, 68, who died at the Kleineck Nursing home in Onslow Tuesday morning.
Rev. J. W. Hosmer of Anamosa was in charge of the service. Burial was in South Mineral cemetery. Fred Wilbur Bangs was born in Wauconda, Ill., Sept. 15, 1886. He was the son of Ambrose and Eliza Hill Bangs. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of 12.
He was married to Jennie A. Long June 25, 1890. Mr. Bangs worked as a telegrapher for the railroad for many years. He operated a store at Center Junction and worked as a guard in the Anamosa reformatory for 11 years. Following his retirement he and his wife made their home in the Kleineck nursing home.
He was honored as a 50-year member of the Masonic lodge in Anamosa and was a member of the Congregational church. Survivors include his wife and two nieces, Mrs. Sadie Bond of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. Grace Sowles, Philadelphia, Pa. He was preceded in death by a sister.
