Irene T. Leggitt, age 85 passed away March 7 at home. She was born on May 19, 1927 to Cephenus and Clare (Couch) Elliston in Battle Creek, MI. Irene attended Newbre Country School in Ceresco till the 8th grade and graduated from Lakeview High School Class of 1944. As a young lady Irene was employed by Battle Creek Bread Wrapper and Percy Jones. On February 1,1947 she married Alfred W. Leggitt in Battle Creek, where they resided raising six children. In 1971 Irene and her husband moved to Athens where he preceded her in death in 1999. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Aux Post #5319. She loved playing bingo and going to garage sales. Irene is survived by daughters Linda (Fred) Farleigh of Richland, Ardith (John) Smith of Sherwood, son Ronald (Peggy) Leggitt of Burlington, 14 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Clarence, Richard; four sisters Helen, Bernice, Edith, Alice; three sons Daniel, Robert, James; one grandchild Katrina Walters, and one great grand child Marinda Barnes. Visitation will be held Sunday March 10th from 2pm to 4pm at Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 March 11th at Spencer Family Funeral Home with Pastor Trent Hammond officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Floral Lawn Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. Memorials can be made to Lifespan Hospice of Battle Creek MI. Arrangements by Spencer Family Funeral Home, Athens MI.
