He learned the value of hard work at a young age, working for the family sawmill. He and his brothers founded Lambert Brothers, Inc., quarrying rock by hand and mule drawn wagons, to contruct such projects as the Blue Ridge Parkway, St. Lawrence Seaway, Norris Dam and the Oak Ridge project. In the 1930's, he invented and patented the Lambert Automatic Skip now known as the "Dempster Dumpster".
He proudly served in the European theater of World War II as a 310th combat engineer, known as "Pop" by many young soldiers.
He returned to Lambert Brothers relocating to the Stockbridge quarry in Henry County, Georgia. Lambert Brothers Inc. eventually merged into Vulcan Materials Company, a Fortune 500 company, in 1957 from which he retired in the 1970's.
Mr. Lambert was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, a 32nd degree Mason, Young Harris College Board of Trustees, Capital City Club and former director of Trust Company Bank of Henry County and The Presidents Council of Oglethorpe University.
Surviving are his loving wife, Lorraine Inman Lambert, daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Perry Ellison of Atlanta, son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Mary Lynn Lambert of McDonough, four grandchildren, Perryman Ellison, Ansley, Sadie and Rip Lambert and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, May 9 at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allison Williams and Rev. William Schotanus officiating. Interment will be in Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Young Harris College P.O.
