Melvin served his country in the US Air Force. He retired from Erie General Electric Co. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North East, where he belonged to the L.L.L. men's organization of the church. He enjoyed woodworking, working in his garden and his yard and watching sports on television.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, JoAnne Sturdivant Abele, whom he married September 14, 1951, one son, Douglas Abele and his wife Julie of Lawrence Park and two grandchildren.
Interment will be in North East Cemetery.
