In January 1920 Owen Schoom (5 years old, born in Indiana), his father Jackup Schoom (46, Indiana, bridge builder), mother Katherine (45, Netherlands), his ten brothers Peter (23, Indiana, inspector at a plate mill), Edward (20, Indiana, foreman at a slate mill), Jackup (18, Indiana, spell hand at a slab mill), Nicholas (16, Indiana), Henery (14, Indiana), Walter (13), Howard (11), Raymond (9, Indiana), Lester (7, Indiana) and Elton (1, Indiana) were living in their own house at 4446 Lincoln Street in Ward 9 of Gary, Calumet Township, Lake County, located in the extreme northwestern part of Indiana.

In April 1930 Owen Schoon (15), his father Jacob Schoon (56, bridge carpenter at steam railway), mother Katherine (55), brothers Howard [21, splicer (verbinder) at a phone company), Raymond (19), Lester (17) and Elton (12) were still living in their own house, worth $4500, at 4446 Lincoln Street in Gary, Calumet Township, Lake County, Indiana.

On December 25, 1936 Owen H Schoon married in Lake County, Indiana to the same aged Margaret Hollopeter, born in Ohio.

Owen and Margaret had 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. 4 of them were still living in 2002. Their middle child, Margaret Lynn Schoon, was either stillborn or died shortly after birth on August 15, 1944.

In April 1940 Owen Schoon (25, clerk at a post office), his wife Margarete (25, Ohio) and their son Allan (2, Indiana) were living in a rented house at 4469 Lincoln Street in Ward 6 of Gary, Calumet Township, Lake County, Indiana. Owen and Margarete lived in 1935 in Gary too, but in another house.

From at least September 1, 1984 until at least March 1, 1992 Owen H. and Margarete L. Schoon resided at Luray, a town in the Shenandoah Valley of the northern part of Virginia, seat of Page County. Its population was 4,895 at the 2010 census.

From at least 1 August 1997 until their deaths they lived in Alexandria City, located just south of Washington D.C. in the northeastern part of Virginia.

Owen H Schoon died in April 2000 at the age of 85 years in Alexandria City, Virginia. His widow Margaret H Schoon died there too, in May 2002, at the age of 87 years.

Owen H. Schoon, 85, of Alexandria, Virginia, formerly of Gary, IN, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, nee Hollopeter of 63 years;
four children: Allan (Betty) Schoon of Crown Point, Garry (Joann) Schoon of Noblesville, IN, Marilyn (Bill) Wortley Schoon of Alexandria, VA, Paul Schoon of Columbia, Maryland; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers: Henry Schoon of Monticello, IN, Raymond Schoon of Vista, CA., Lester Schoon of Lakes of the Four Seasons and Elton Schoon of Steger, IL. Preceded in death by his parents, Jacob, Sr. and Kate Schoon, and six brothers, Peter, Edward "Ted", Jacob, Nicholas, Walter and Howard.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at 11:30 a.m. from the Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. David Webb officiating. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, Indiana.
Mr. Schoon was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Hobart [acc. to Kenneth J. Schoon in Sept. 2014: must be of Gary], and present member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Luray, Virginia. He was retired from the Gary Post Office in the Postal Clerks Union. Owen organized many of the postal workers in Indiana, into the Postal Clerks Union, later becoming President of the Gary Clerks Local
Union. This was followed by his election to the office of Secretary/Treasurer in the Indiana State Postal Clerks Union. He later became Regional Vice-President of the Union.
This was followed by his election to the position of General Secretary/Treasurer of the Postal Clerks Union headquarted in Washington D.C. Owen was a member and Past Master of the Glen Park Masonic Lodge and a member of the Lions Club in Luray, VA. Masonic Service Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
