Mother Dorothy Elizabeth Phelps Edwards was born on April 27, 1930 to the late Earnest Phelps and Mary Elizabeth Claude. She departed this life on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by sons, William, Finiss, and James Edwards; brother, Carl Fleming and sisters, Willa Hampton and Mary Edwards.
Recognizing the need for Christ at a young age, she attended the Original Church of God. Later, she joined Mt. Zion M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor G.L. Gilchrist. She served as an Usher, Mother and supporter of church activities until her health began to fail.
Dorothy attended Webster School System. At a young age, she did housekeeping and babysitting for many families throughout Maury County.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband, Rev. Charlie C. Edwards; loving daughters, Dorothy Akins and Laura Edwards; supportive granddaughter, LaWanda Edwards; loving great grandchildren, Sharnreka Akins, Jordan Akins, and Rolonda Edwards; loving brother James Shirley Phelps; wonderful brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Anita Edwards; 3 great friends, Patricia Holt, Mildred Joyce, and Earnestine Mitchell; a host of relatives and friends.
The body will lie in state Friday, September 5, 2014 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Mt. Pleasant Roundtree, Napier, and Ogilvie Funeral Home.
Visitation with the Family will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at Mt. Zion M.B. Church with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. Eulogist: Reverend Eric Brown, Jr. Interment Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Roundtree, Napier, and Ogilvie Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
