Henry Wesley Coates, a native of Sullivan County, was a retired farmer and lived in rural Kingsport. He was the son of Johnny and Martha (Simpson) Coates. Henry passed away in the Holston Valley Community Hospital.
Henry was preceded in death by his first wife Maggie and second wife Ida.
Survivors include: two sons, Junior Coates and Hooper H. Coates, Kingsport; five daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Weaver and Mrs. Seanye Vaughn, both of Kingsport, Mrs. Grace Powers, Yuma, Va., Mrs. Gladys Byrd, Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Evelyn Spurgeon, Morristown; a step-son, Johnny Stroupe, Gate City; and two step-daughters, Mrs. Verna Rickard, Morristown, and Mrs. Elva Arnold, Church Hill. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
