Ernest D. Hathaway, 73, a former longtime resident of the Kingsley community, passed away in a hospital at Glendive, Montana, Saturday, May 11, 1963. Funeral services were held in Montana Monday morning, May 13, at 9 a.m. after which the body was sent to the Wiltgen-Lutjen Funeral Home in LeMars. The Rosary was recited there Tuesday afternoon, May 14, at 2:30. Burial was made in St. Michael's parish cemetery at Kingsley where graveside services were conducted by Father Raymond Wieling. Pallbearers were five sons of the deceased and Howard Hathaway of Kingsley. Mr. Hathaway was born June 14, 1889, in Woodbury County. On September 1, 1914, he married Pearl Stortz, who preceded him in death. He left Kingsley 25 years ago and resided at LeMars before moving to Glendive. Survivors include six sons, Harold of Seattle, Melvin of Miles City, Montana, Joseph of Glendive, Robert and Jack both of Denver, and Jerry of San Francisco; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Dreckman of Center City, Minnesota; a brother, Ray of Beach, North Dakota; and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Mitchell of Los Angeles and Mrs. Eva Royer of Kingsley. Mr. Hathaway's children were all present for the graveside services here except for Robert who was injured severely in a traffic mishap some time ago and was too ill to make the trip.
