Dorothy Belle Passmore, 91, of Idaho Falls died at her home on September 3, 2014. She was under the care of her family and Aspen Hospice. She was born June 6, 1923, to Thomas Jacob Bocook and Flossie May O’Neel Bocook in Plains, Montana.

She spent her childhood in northern Idaho with her mother, father, and eight siblings. Growing up during the Great Depression of the 1920’s developed a frugality in her nature that blessed her family all of her life. Though her paternal family did not have an abundance of material possessions, the wealth that Dorothy accrued during that time was of family and friends. Those bonds of loyalty endured throughout her life and into the lives of her children. She communicated and visited with those friends and relatives during her lifetime inspiring her children to create bonds of love the same manner

After her graduation from high school she joined the NYA (National Youth Association) where she trained to be a top notch secretary and went on to obtain employment with the Army Air Corps. When she went to work at the Army base in Pendleton, Oregon she met her future husband, Sgt Clyde L. Passmore. They were later married on July 11, 1942. Their love for each other was an inspiration to all who knew them. Their love blossomed into a lifelong companionship of nurturing and caring for each other and for those they loved. They were devoted to each other for 62 years and beyond. After World War II, they settled in Pocatello for a time, and in 1954, they moved to Idaho Falls, where they raised their family of four children.

Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. When entering her home, you would immediately see pictures of her growing family overtaking the entire east wall of her living room. She was talented in domestic art and made the best apple pies around! She was an excellent cook, a seamstress for others, taught phonics to children who were reading challenged, and was a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. Her family was the hub of her life attending sports and arts events, graduations, baptisms’, weddings and receptions of all sorts. Everyone was welcome in her home and as long as there was floor space there was room for one more. Her mantra was “Come when you can and stay for as long as you’d like”. She was a prolific writer and historian. In their later years she and her husband traveled extensively to gather Genealogy and visit family and friends. They included each of their children and their spouses and grandchildren in their trips. She took painting lessons in her later years, and enjoyed painting pictures of her family.

Dorothy is survived by her children and their respective families: Anne Flood of Tulare, California, and her children, Donise, Julie, Joel, Aaron, Lora, David, Kathleen, Matt, and Amy; Sheila Woods of Idaho Falls and daughters, Deedra and Macy; Garret (Wynette) Passmore of Rigby, Idaho, and children, Brianne, Jacob, Denham, Dillan, and Emmalee; and Brian (Brenda) Passmore of Idaho Falls and children Breann, Karianne, Emily, Kristopher, Benjamin, Kolton, and Kennedy; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby West and Gracie Worley.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Passmore; parents, Thomas Jacob Bocook and Flossie May O’Neel Bocook; her; brothers Elby, Henry, and Lynville Bocook; sisters Daisy, Flossie, and Shirley; and grandson, Adam Joseph Flood.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge). The family will visit with friends Sunday, September 7, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday before the funeral services, both at the funeral home.

Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Ammon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Aspen Hospice, 3470 Washington Parkway, Idaho Falls, ID 83404.
