Jay H. Cook

Jay H. Cook, 84, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, from natural causes.
He was born on March 6, 1930, in Ogden, Utah, the 5th child and 4th son of Amos Roy and Elizabeth G Williams Cook.
Jay graduated from Davis High School and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Australian Mission. Soon after his return from his mission, he was called to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. After his service in the Army, he attended Utah State Agricultural College (USU) where he earned his degree in education.
Jay met the love of his life, Doris Valene Simonsen, a “cute girl” in Brigham City on a blind date. They were married in the Logan LDS temple for time and all eternity on September 19, 1955. After his graduation from college, Jay and his new family settled back in his hometown of West Point, where he would spend the rest of his life.
He ended up teaching for 29 years at Clearfield High School, where he was the business department chairman for most of those years.
He was a faithful member of the Church serving in many callings. He served as Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President, and Stake Clerk, just to name a few. After his retirement, Jay served another LDS mission with his eternal companion in the New York, New York North Mission.
Jay enjoyed the outdoors, where he spent his summers farming on his dad’s farm. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, snow birding and cracking walnuts during the winters in Yuma.
Jay is survived by his wife Doris; his children: Mark Roy (Janet), Clearfield; Nancie (Robert) Clark, West Point; Chad Jay (Janette), Clinton; Bryce Jay (Marlene), Taylor; one brother, David H. Cook; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Norman Cook, Amos Roy Cook Jr., one sister Marjory C. Clark, and one great grandson, Trey Oreste Zuech.
Interment at the West Point Cemetery.
