She was the loving wife of fifty-six years to the late Mr. Harlan Andrew "Andy" Pontious at the time of his death in 2003. The family will receive friends from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock Thursday evening, September 4, 2014, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Homes, Walterboro Chapel. Mrs. Pontious will be laid to rest in a family committal ceremony at Live Oak Cemetery on South Jefferies Boulevard in Walterboro. Born August 25, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Mary Loncar. She made Walterboro her home in the early 1970's having lived prior to that time in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.
Surviving are: two daughters, Paula Ann Holland and Mary Louise McDaniel both of Walterboro; two sons, James Peurifoy "Jimmy" Pontious of Walterboro and William Fox "Billy" Pontious of New Hampshire; and a sister, Dian Verboski. There are two beloved granddogs, Charlie and Ellie who also surivive as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
