CENTER JUNCTION....John Henry Dirks, 76, of Center Junction died Friday, November 28, 2005, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2005, Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello with burial in the church cemetery,rev. Eugene Schpper officiated.
John Henry was born the son of D. John and Dena (Husmann) Dirks, on July 7, 1929 at home in Jones County near amber, IA. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1947. John married Irene Catherine Malone on April 23, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Center junction area where he was a Dairy Farmer. He was a member of the American Legion, served on the Jones County Dairy Board, and was a former Director of the Center Junction/MVMPA Coop.
He was very family-centered and loved to brag about them at the Center Junction Coop coffee club, a favorite early morning spot for John. He liked Bill Elliott and Richard Petty racecar drivers and never missed Sunday morning polka parties or the Big Joe polka band. John also loved his cows, football, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and his International 706 tractor with Cummings Engine.
Surviving are his wife, Irene, 2 sons: Colin (Kari) of Coralville, IA and Keith (Jackee) of Center Junction, IA. 5 grandchildren: Ryan Dirks and Alison Dirks of Coralville, IA, and Danelle Dirks (Chris Snyder) of Onslow, IA; Kiel Dirks, and Richelle Dirks, both of Center Junction; 3 sisters-in-law: Beulah Seehusen of Omaha, NE; Marilyn (Don) Meier of Lowden, IA; and Glenna Malone (Jim Sanders) of Cedar Rapids, IA.
He is preceded in death by 2 brothers-in-law;Jim Seehusen and Harley "Bill" Malone.
