Coralie Anita Mayer Bentley passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2011 after a heroic battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loving family. Born in Philadelphia on Oct 29, 1929, the day of the stock market crash, she lived through a turbulent and exciting period of American history.
In 1941, she lived with her parents in Manila, Philippines when it was bombed by the Japanese, and she lived for the next two years in the Santo Tomas prisoner of war camp. She married Frederick Mayer in 1949 and nurtured eight children.
She was a loving mother, successful real estate broker, a consummate bridge player, and dear friend to many residents of the Rancho Carlsbad community where she lived since 1983.
Preceding her in death was her beloved daughter, Dorothy Jeanne Mayer; Fred Mayer, her husband of 47 years; and Charles Bentley, her husband of seven years. Her seven surviving children are: Marita Mayer, Theresa Boatwright, Rick Mayer, Christopher Mayer, Barbara Mayer Stillions, Michael Mayer, and Angela Enos. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Noble; half-sister, Margaret Loftus; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
No one who knew her was untouched by her generosity, intelligence, and smile. She loved so many people who will always love and miss her.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday afternoon, June 13th. Published in U-T San Diego on June 12, 2011
