CAROLYN JANE FENLON, 56, died July 21, 1997, in Colorado Springs following a long-term illness. She was the volunteer coordinator for Penrose and St. Francis hospitals. A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at East United Methodist Church, 1505 E. Monument St., with the Rev. Larry Paulson and the Rev. Burl Kreps officiating. Private inurnment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road. Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, is handling arrangements. Mrs. Fenlon was born Oct. 19, 1940, in Colorado Springs to William Etter and Dorothy (Moredock) Bassett, who are deceased. Her stepmother, Glendora Bassett, lives in Colorado Springs. She was married June 6, 1965, in Colorado Springs to Ned W. Fenlon, who lives in Colorado Springs. She also is survived by a son, Scott Mercer of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Patricia Elizabeth Moore of Newcastle, Great Britain; a sister, Norma Jean Kramer of Eagle River, Alaska; a stepbrother, Robert F. Henry of Colorado Springs; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Fenlon graduated from Colorado Springs High School and Blair Business College. She was a volunteer at Penrose Hospital for more than 20 years and held many offices, including president, in the auxiliary. She was an active member of the East United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, for her compassion, faith, encouragement and inspiration to others, and warm and wonderful smile. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East United Methodist Church, 1505 E. Monument St., Colorado Springs 80909; Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, 1400 E. Boulder St., Colorado Springs 80809; or the Penrose-St. Francis Foundation, 2215 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs 80907.
