Last Rites For Luverne Schumann

Rev. Ralph Hindman conducted funeral services for LuVerne Schumann of Albert City, age 78, at the United Methodist Church in Varina on Thursday morning, September 9, 1976.

Organist was Mrs. Bill Baughman and soloist was Mrs. Duane Hornor. Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Ine Krogstad.

Bearers were Melvin Gerjets, Virgil Schumann, Everyl Schumann, Robert McCline, Richard Siefken and Darwin Murray. Interment was in the Varina Cemetery under the direction of the Nelson Funeral Home of Albert City.

OBITUARY
LuVerne Edmund Schumann

LuVerne Edmund Schumann was born January 23, 1898 in Coon Township, Buena Vista County. He was the son of William and Minnie Splittgerber Schumann. He was confirmed in the German Methodist Church near Varina April 12, 1914. He completed the ninth grade in the Varina school.

On January 30, 1918, he was married to Ada Victoria Rosene at Marathon. They have lived in Coon Township, Buena Vista County, in Dover Township, Pocahontas County, and in Albert City. He farmed and worked with machinery all his
life. He did not miss a harvest from 1914 to 1975.

To them were born four boys. They are Frederick of Pipestone, Minn., Wm., who was killed in 1944 in World War II, Darrll of Albert City, and Marlyn of Newell. He had served on the Varina School Board. He was a member of the Varina
United Methodist Church and had been a trustee various times.

He passed away at Buena Vista Hospital Sept. 6, 1976, after just a week in the hospital. He had been in steadily declining health.

He is survived by his wife and the following from his immediate family: from the family of Fredrick and Laura Mae, Gene and Rosemary and children Jeff and Stacy; Richard and children, Ricky, Amy, and Jodi; Craig and Linda, and children, Jamie, Chad, and Neil; and Rex Allen. From the family of William Schumann, Mrs. Don (Luella) Herron, and Mr. and Mrs. Gaylen (Patricia) Graybill and children, Terri, Brett, Barry, Gaylen and Shane. From Darrell and Jo Schumann, Lori, Scott, and Marty. From Marlyn and Mavis Schumann, Dale, Marlys, Drew, and Marlene.

He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Lane, Mrs. Alma Gerjets and Mrs. Nellie Hout, all of Alta. He was preceded in death by a brother, LaMont, and a sister, Mrs. Lillie McCline.

LuVerne was a student of the Bible, and maintained the habit of reading from it daily. He was stalwart for what he believed to be right. He was kind and helpful to all in need. He will be missed by many and long remembered for his
full and good life.
