William was the third of twelve children born to John and Mary (Osgood) Lovejoy. He married Mary Farnum in Andover on Nov. 29, 1680. They had eight known children there, as shown in "Massachusetts, Births and Christenings, 1639-1915":

3. Mary (Nov. 15, 1685)
4. Alice (Aug, 23, 1687)
5. Caleb (Mar. 29, 1691)
6. Samuel (Apr. 10, 1693)
7. Abigail (Jun, 11, 1695)
8. Lydia (Apr. 29, 1699).

William was one of the first deacons of Andover's South Church in 1711 and was shown as a deacon when he died at age 92. Although buried in the church's cemetery, his grave has not been found.
