Long time San Benito County resident Angie C. Annotti passed away on Saturday, February 25th in Hollister after a prolonged illness, age 87.
Mrs. Annotti was born Camille Angelica Accornero in Madrone, CA, on December 21, 1918. She was one of six children of Italian immigrant parents. Given up for adoption at the age of three, along with two other sisters, she spent the next four years in a Dominican-operated orphanage in Mission San Jose. The Children's Home Society assisted in her adoption by James and Teresa Castoro of Hollister in 1925. Her sisters were adopted by families from Monterey and Sacramento.
Mrs. Annotti attended local schools. Her adopted parents were one of six families who founded and operated Hollister Canning Co. She met her future husband, Joseph Annotti, a native of Rome, NY, in 1936 when he began working for the cannery. Together, they founded Fairview Packing Co. in 1941. Mr. Annotti died in December 1982.
Mrs. Annotti began the search for her biological family in 1941. Working with limited information, she and her siblings found one another over the next 40 years and have maintained close relationships for decades. Three siblings--Rose Gumm, Elizabeth Minthorn, and Joseph Accornero -- preceded her in death. Two sisters--Mary Bernal of Morgan Hill and Kay Lucido (Mario)--survive her.
Mrs. Annotti was active in the San Benito County community for over eight decades. In addition to helping build one of the county's largest employers, she was an ardent supporter and benefactor of many local charities and organizations, including Sacred Heart School, Immaculate Conception Church, the Children's Home Society, and the Salvation Army. She also played a leading role in establishing an Ombudsman program at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to ensure that all local citizens received the highest quality health care possible.
Her legacy includes five children--Camille Stevens of Hollister; Teresa Rogers (Phil) of Modesto; Diane Annotti of Hollister; JoAnn Annotti of Seaside; and Joseph Annotti II (Jody) of Chicago--10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her own family, Mrs. Annotti "adopted" dozens of other individuals over the years and viewed them as her children.
