Funeral services for Wayne Nickelson, age 68, of Bottineau, were held on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Glenn Berge. Shelly Berge was the organist and the congregation sang selected hymns. Casket bearers were Allan Amsbaugh, Eric Amsbaugh, Cory Amsbaugh, Brad Nickelson, Allan Nickelson and George Nickelson. Burial was at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Wayne Nickelson, a son of Gilbert and Grace (Carlson) Nickelson, was born on November 20, 1941 at Bottineau. He attended country school and at a very young age, he began working out as a hired man for area farmers.

On September 8, 1962, he married Harriette Amsbaugh at Bottineau. He was a self taught mechanic and he was capable of fixing just about everything. He worked for various mechanic shops before joining Frykman Motors. He later worked for the Bottineau Public School as a bus driver and taught welding classes. In 1971, he began farming and continued farming until his retirement due to poor health.

Wayne passed away, Thursday, November 26, 2009 at a Bottineau hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Harriette of Bottineau; son, Dennis Nickelson of Bottineau, daughter, Laurie Nickelson of Bottineau; grandson, Steven Nickelson of Bottineau; brother Wesley Nickelson and his wife Gloria, of Bottineau; Mother-in-law, Hazel Haakenson; brothers-in-law, Terry (Lana) Amsbaugh of Minot and Dale (Diann) Amsbaugh of Fargo and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arland.
