Michael, my grandfather, was born in Hodony, Hungary, the son of Peter and Christine Huffenus.

His first wife, Margaret Krizanitz, born in Mazidorf, Hungary, died in 1918 at 29 years old.

Michael and Margaret Krizanitz had five children: Eva Helen (1909-1996), Michael George, Jr. (1911-1999), Margaretha Magdelena (1912-1986) my mother, Barbara Christine "Pinny" (1914-2005), and Frederick (1915-1985).

His second wife, Margaret Senftleben (1881-1959) was born in Austria and died at 78 years old, two months after Michael. They were married in Elizabeth, NJ on Oct. 21, 1922 by Elizabeth Mayor Victor Mravlag. The witnesses were his brother-in-law George Knapp and his nephew George Kilburg. There were no children with this marriage.

Michael came to America in 1905. He worked at Singer's in Elizabeth, NJ for thirty-six years until his retirement on July 1, 1950.

He and his family first lived at 355 E89th St. in New York, then 140 5th St. in Elizabeth and then moved to 1017 Julia St. in Elizabeth, NJ where he lived until his death in 1959 at age 78.

Michael's great-great-granddaughter, Emily Margaret Banasiak lies on the right side of the monument, and his grandson, Edward Wagner, Jr. lies on the left when facing the monument.

I never saw my grandfather leave the house by the front door without a jacket, tie, vest and hat. Casual was OK in the back yard, but never the front.

Note that cemetery records have the last name misspelled as "Huffeness".
