Herman's WWII registration card, October 16, 1940, states he is 5' 10 1/2" tall, 138 pounds, blue eyes, brown hair. He has a 2" long scar inside his right forearm.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII on January 29, 1944, in New Orleans and was discharged on February 19, 1946. After the war, he and June continued to live in Shreveport and Herman worked as salesman and truck driver at times.
During the 1940s, they had two children, a boy and a girl.
In August 1985, they moved to Massachusetts to live close to their daughter. Herman passed away in January 1986 at the age of 75.
