Mary was married to John Arthur on the March 1, 1880 at Eastfield, Cumbernauld, after Banns according to the Forms of the Free Church of Scotland. Shortly after their marriage Mary and John moved to the United States and settled in Huntsville, Polk County, Minnesota. Their first five children, Robert, James, Jessie, Maggie and George were born in Huntsville, Minnesota between 1881 and 1889. Evidently things did work out to their satisfaction in the US and about 1890 the family moved back to Scotland and settled at 159 Garngad Hill, Townhead parish of Glasgow. Mary gave birth to three more children in Glasgow; Jeanie, Mary and Elizabeth. In 1901 Mary worked in a Dairy Shop.
