Funeral services for Billy Joe Thompson, age 85, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Blake White officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Mr. Thompson died Friday, August 1, 2014 in Soddy Daisy, TN. He was born on February 23, 1929 in Milan, TN to the late Joseph Muncie and Sue Adcock Thompson. He moved to Jackson at age 3 after his mother's death and was reared by his late uncle and aunt, Marvin and Allene McKenzie. Mr. Thompson was a 1947 graduate of Jackson High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was employed 20 years with Southwest Electric Cooperative as a journeyman lineman and an additional 20 years with Jackson Utility Division (now JEA). He retired from JUD in 1992. He was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Lee Aldrich Thompson and his sister, Leatrice Meucci.
