Altman Rites Set for Tuesday
War Prisoner's Wife Killed in Wreck
Funeral services will be held in McAlester tomorrow for Mrs. J. C. Altman, 31-year old wife of Capt. J. C. (Jack) Altman who is held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese since the fall of Corregidor in the Philippines. Mrs. Altman met death in an automobile accident Saturday night, near Amarillo, Tex., where she resided with a sister, Mrs. M. D. Cox, formerly Miss Viola Putnam of McAlester. A brother, Albert Putnam, also lived there and another brother, Paul, resides in Tulsa. Their father is J. M. Putnam of Electric Avenue. Before her marriage she was Miss Ruth Putnam. Details of the accident were lacking in the advice received here, but two other women died in the crash it was stated. Mrs. Altman had just received a card from her husband who had written from a Japanese internment camp that he was well and uninjured when taken prisoner. Captain Altman is a son of Mrs. Nell Altman and A. C. Altman, both of McAlester. The services Tuesday will be at 3 o'clock, at the Second Baptist Church, of which Mrs. Altman was a member. Rev. L. M. Kemp will officiate and burial, under the direction of Humphrey's, will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
