Pauline Magdelene Ziegler, 90, a longtime resident of Mansfield, passed from this life to the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 22, 2012 after courageously dealing with the complications of Alzheimer’s for twenty years. She was born on March 8, 1921 to Thomas and Laura (Alt) Studer.

She married Nicholas J. Ziegler on August 7, 1943 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Mansfield and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2007. Pauline was a member of St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church since it was built on Wayne Street. Even though she loved being a homemaker, she had worked many jobs including at Westinghouse and Hartman Electric. Pauline retired to spend her days with her husband who was her best friend.

She loved her flower garden and had a green thumb with starting anything from a shrub to a rose. She loved desserts and was adept at baking anything from delicious cookies to coffee cakes and enjoyed sharing them with family, friends and fellow workers.

Pauline was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her children’s clothing and even some for her husband. She enjoyed working on crafts and was always searching for new ideas.

Pauline is survived by two daughters, Judy (Gerald) Phillips of Galion and Mary (Peter) Leicht of Mansfield; two sons, Larry (Emily) Ziegler and John (Marlene) Ziegler, both of Mansfield; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by eight sisters and brothers, Joan Miller of Attica, Richard (Dorothy) Studer of Mansfield, Alice Weisenauer of Bloomville, Freda (Linus) Bishop of Mansfield, Agnes (Donald) Hocker of Centerville, Donald (Sandy) Studer of Medina, Jerry (Donna) Studer of Mansfield and Glenn (Debbie) Studer of Republic; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Paul and George Thomas Ziegler.

Friends and family may visit from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 South Diamond Street, Mansfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church with Father Nelson Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
