Holton Neff Ford was the oldest of the five sons born to Edwin Holton and Elizabeth (Neff) Ford of Hartford City and Wabash, Indiana. He received his early education in the Hartford City Schools, and was a graduate Marion Business College.

Holton served with the U. S. Army in France and Belgium during World War I and was an early member of the American Legion.

He lived in Hamilton, Ohio, from 1920 to 1950, during which time he was secretary-treasurer of the Andrews Asphalt Paving Co. and director of the Anthony Wayne Hotel. He also was president of the Hamilton Rotary Club, and was a former commander of the Frank Durwin American Legion post there.

He returned to Wabash in 1950 and became active in the family business, the Ford Meter Box Co. He was treasurer of the company until 1970. He also was active in the Wabash Rotary Club for many years. In 1983, Rotarians and family members honored him with a surprise 90th birthday party at a November club meeting. He received Rotary's Paul Harris Fellowship Award to a standing ovation at the meeting. His other activities included serving as director of the First Federal Savings Bank from 1956 to 1973. He also served as director of Wabash Cemetery Society (Falls Cemetery) for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Holton was married on July 5, 1920 in Wabash to Miss Rosalind Sweetser, daughter of John Q. and Ida (Keller) Sweetser of Wabash County. Both her parents' families were pioneers in Wabash County; Rosalind was the granddaughter of Jonathan Keller, Jr., the first white child born in Wabash County. They had one son, John Holton Ford (1921); four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Holton was a grandson of Dr. James and America (Holton) Ford of Wabash.
