Visitation for Whatcom County building contractor William L Padgett will be from 9 am to 8:30 pm Thursday, and from 9 to 11 am Friday in Jones-Moles Funeral Home, 322 E. Holly St.


The funeral will be at 1 pm Friday in Cornwall Park Church of God. His ashes will be placed in Woodlawn Cemetery. The R3ev. Ken Long will conduct the service. Mr. Padgett of 2812 Elm St, died Sunday, March 29, 1992. He was 66.


He was born Sept 28, 1925, in Mineola, Texas, to William L. and Ura Padgett.


His military service was with the US Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.


Mr. Padgett began his career in the construction industry as a carpenter at Ross Dam where he was known as "Skagit Bill." He was well-known as a building contractor in Bellingham and Point Roberts for more than 30 years.


He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling in his motor home, reading and cross-word puzzles. He was very fond of dogs.


Mr. Padgett was a member of Albert J. Hamilton American Legion Post 7 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 194. He was a former master of Whatcom Lodge 151, F&AM, and past patron of Maple Leaf Chapter 58, Order of Eastern Star. He was a Rainbow Dad for Bellingham Rainbow Assembly 17.


He was a member of First Christian Church in Mineola, Texas.


Survivors include his son William E. Padgett of Bellingham; his daughter Suzanne Warrington of Everson; his sister Mary Jane Viney of Bellingham; his good friend Dorothy Hamilton; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews in Washington, and many relatives in Texas.
