Virginia Abernathy of Nacogdoches passed away Monday, August 25, 2014, in Nacogdoches.

Mrs. Abernathy was born in Nacogdoches to parents William Allen Mize and Almeda Phenathy (Moon) Mize.

She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, Nacogdoches, and was very active in the church throughout her years. Virginia served on various committees in the church, the Alter Guild, a longtime member of United Methodist Women's Circle VII, Open Door Sunday School Class, and attended several women's Bible Studies.

Graduating from the Class of 1942 at NHS, Virginia then attended the University of Texas earning dual degrees in math and chemistry. Following graduation she worked as a designer at her family's business, Mize Manufacturing. She and her husband Sid then opened a women's dress shop, Abernathy's, which they operated until their retirement.

During her retirement years, she enjoyed continuing weekly games with her long time bridge club, meeting with the Flora Garden club, working in the yard, and time with her grandchildren. Virginia was a true example of Christian love to all, loving God, Family, and Friends. She will be missed.
