Mary Jane Conde was born in Chester Township, Wabash County, Indiana, the daughter of Julius and Elizabeth Daniels Conde, farmers of that vicinity. Her mother died while she was yet a baby, and her father passed away when Mary Jane was but fourteen years of age. She resided with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Payton Daniels, following her father's demise, and received her education in the Chester Township schools.

Mary Jane was married on December 31, 1874 in Wabash, Indiana to to William Jesse Ford, son of Dr. James and America (Holton) Ford. They had six children: William Jesse, Jr. (1876, died at age 10 days), Edwin Conde (1877-1900), Nellie Holton (1880), Ethel America (1882), Anna Elizabeth (1884) and James Oscar (1886) Ford; ten grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren.

During their residence in Wabash, Jesse Ford was engaged in quarrying stone for pavements. In November 1881, the couple moved onto his father's farm near Montpelier in Blackford County where they engaged in farming until the spring of 1884, when they moved onto their own farm four miles south of Montpelier. They resided there for about seven years, when they purchased a residence in this city at 1018 West Grant Street, where Mr. Ford died on March 1, 1915.

After her husband's death in 1915, Mary Jane then went to Spokane, Washington, where she resided for two years with her oldest daughter, Nellie (Mrs. Edward) Crosby. She later returned to Hartford City where she made her home on North Jefferson Street with her youngest daughter Anna Elizabeth (Mrs. Albert) Gable.

She was remarried on May 10, 1920 in Hartford City to Elijah Tyner, and they moved to North Manchester, Indiana where they resided on a property on North Mill Street until 1924 when they moved to their farm, north of Liberty Mills, Indiana.

Mary Jane had been a homemaker, a life resident of Indiana, and an active worker in the Christian Church. She was a woman of fine character who possessed a host of friends, and was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
